Join our Million Step Challenge
This May, to mark Mental Health Awareness Week, we are launching our Million Step Challenge and we’d love you to be a part of it. All month long, we are encouraging you to take action with your mental health. One of the ways you can do this is through walking.
Walking can have huge benefits on our mental and physical health. Spending time in nature and engaging in regular walks can help significantly reduce stress and anxiety levels, helping you clear your mind, and encouraging calm and peace in your life. (NHS, 2026; Calm, 2023).
Don’t worry we are not expecting you to walk 1 million steps in a month on your own! We will be adding up everyone’s steps who wants to get involved to help us reach our total. This is a
collective effort and we are all in this together! When it comes to getting your steps, we aren’t expecting you to overhaul your whole lifestyle either. Adding a little bit in extra each day can make a huge difference to your mental health and wellbeing. Whether you’re getting your steps in during your shift at work, walking the long way to the shops or going for a walk in the park. Every step counts and can make a huge difference.
How do I take part?
Send us your steps to help us reach our goal! You can do this at the end of every day or at the end of each week. We will add you to our totalizer and share an update every Wednesday! You can do this by tagging us in your posts or sending us DM’s (Instagram & Tiktok @sunderlandmind, Facebook @mindsunderland). You can also email us your updates to groups@sunderlandmind.co.uk. Make sure to take lots of pics of what you get up to!
